Increased road tax in Germany and new costs on ferry routes

In response to increasing environmental concerns, the German government has decided to change the tax rates for road transport.

The tax addition depends on the individual vehicle's specifications, but affects the following vehicles in Germany:

  • From 1/12-2023: Trucks with a gross weight of more than 7.5 tonnes
  • From 1/7-2024: Trucks with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tonnes

The following other countries are working on similar measures: Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Denmark.

We are currently working on the financial impact of this and will contact you as soon as we know the extent.

New costs for ferry routes

As a result of a major European focus on reducing the amount of greenhouse gases, ferry routes will be covered by the EU ETS (EU Emissions Trading System) as of 1 January 2024.

The tax on emissions will be regulated on an ongoing basis in the period 2024-2026.

The final financial impact of this is not yet known, but we will return as soon as it is clarified.
